title: creating something beautiful
INDEPENDENT PROJECT #1- ART WITH A MESSAGE.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
This piece is based off of all trees. the materials I used for this piece was metal wire, copper wire, black spray paint, and thin colored wire.
The idea of this piece is that the small trees represent life and people and that when people come together and rise, we can create something so grand and beautiful. We are in a place in life where everything is so dark and corrupt (represented by the blackness of the trees) but there are people who are coming together to make a difference in this world (the colors on the main tree).
My goal for this piece was to focus on the connection of wire.
My thoughts on this piece is that the message is shown and that the colors are appealing.

title: finding the light
INDEPENDENT PROJECT #2
ARTIST STATEMENT: this artwork piece has a mountain and an array of light. the materials i used for this piece of art was a blank canvas painted colors of black, white, and grays. I used yellow and white tiles for the light aspect and i used glass pieces and brown, white, and black paint for the mountain. the idea behind this piece is that the yellow and white represents light shining off of a dark space. and it represents that even though you may be going through a dark time in life, there is still a light at the end and that you need to fight to get there no matter how hard it gets. my goals for this piece was to show assemblage and texture. |
TITLE: Allow Yourself to Dream
INDEPENDENT PROJECT #3
ARTIST STATEMENT:
this artwork is a gorilla with wings. the materials that were used to create this piece was clay and clay tools.
The idea behind this piece is that if you think about it a gorilla is really heavy and cant get off the ground easily. but when you give it wings it allows you to not only be on the ground or on the worldly side of life. It allows you to soar and to dream.
My goals for this piece was to be able to make a some what realistic form but adding abstract elements such as the wings. I focused on the use of lines and texture.
My thoughts on this piece is that is has a message to it and that it came out to what i wanted it to.

CURATORIAL RATIONALE :
The ideas that I worked with this semester was to create something that had a purpose. and to create something that had a message along with it. the goals I had for myself were to create something that was clean with out extra unwanted marks and to learn how to connect wire with out it being a struggle.
the art pieces I selected for the digital portfolio were all of the pretests and then on the final page I put in my independent pieces. each piece of art was created with a pre-test whether it was wire, clay, assemblage, paper mache etc. the struggles I had was coming up with ideas that meant something and had a story with the piece. the risks that I took for my independent pieces was making them bigger and that were time consuming.
I want my viewers to be able to understand the messages I had with each independent piece. I want the viewers to not have a specific feeling when looking at my work, but to create their own feelings. over all my artwork has great ideas but i need to work on representing them more. i learned that there is more to sculpture than just making a 3D object. my skills improved by being able to express myself in my pieces and allow them to tell a story about my life.
