"Industrial City"
This piece is based off of Detroit, Michigan and it basically shows that this City used to be grand and beautiful and covered in riches. Now its dirty and sad and the industry is taking over its beauty. The materials I used for this piece was small boxes, shells, glass, metal, screws, and paint. My goal for this piece is to show an actual story rather than it being cool to look at. |
"Simplicity"
This Piece is based off of simple, smooth forms that were created from ugly foam blocks and they were placed in a specific order to represent how simple something can be but yet have some excitement to it the materials I used were a wooden block for the base and 6 foam blocks to carve from. my goal for this piece was to explore something new and make it look cool. |
This semester I tried to focus on things that I wasn't super familiar with and being up to explore new ideas. My goal for this semester was to communicate just a message and for people to be able to see that my pieces aren't pointless. I have no particular artist who inspire my work, it depends on the moment. my goals I have for myself is to continue to explore new artist techniques and to dig deeper into each piece.
the pieces I chose for my portfolio is all the pieces I completed which was the foam piece, the clay piece is still in the making, and the assemblage piece. Each piece I did had its own struggles and their own story. the idea of these pieces is to tell a story but that story is for you to decide I just get it started. for the foam piece I struggled most on not breaking the pieces because I don't have a gentle touch. with the assemblage piece I struggled with coming up with an original way to communicate the story. the risks that I took consisted of trying new things and to make the purposeful.
I want people to respond to my work by being able to read the story behind them. I feel accomplished over this semester, I took risks and im genuinely satisfied with my work. my skills improved by making clean pieces and each part has a purpose.
